West Bengal & Sikkim
For centuries, western seekers have made the journey to India to imbibe the spiritual culture, learn the traditions of Sanatana Dharma – the eternal path of self-mastery – and get immersed in the culture of ancient temples, ashrams and holy sites in forests, mountains, and nature. The experience is unforgettable. The transformation is inevitable.
The India retreat is led by Jyoti Ma, Enlightened Life Temple founder and an experienced yogini and lineage holder in the Tamil Siddha and Shakta Tantra traditions. She has lived in India with yogic masters over many years, and has led many pilgrimage tours throughout these sacred lands.
Daily practice and sadhana includes group meditations, pranayama, mantra, kriya practice, puja, diskha, and homa (fire ceremony). Get immersed in the traditions of Siddha, Kundalini and Tantra yoga. Relaxing, healing Ayurvedic spa treatments are available onsite at various locations.
The retreat takes place in the famous holy lands of West Bengal and Sikkim from the foothills to the lower ranges of the Himalayas. North India is renowned for its many ashrams and Buddhist and Hindu temples. You will be a part of an ancient tradition of yatra, taking pilgrimage to sacred sites in holy lands.
From the primordial forests and tea gardens of Darjeeling to a serene retreat in a mountain top forest retreat in Sikkim, our group will travel into the sacred Himalayan Mountain ranges to practice and get immersed in the holy vibrations of this ancient land. We will spend time in sacred places where religious pilgrims from all over the globe gather. We will meditate in the presence of the divine at Buddhist and Hindu temples and visit the secret caves of ancient masters, sacred lakes, forests, and mountain tops – including a special place with views of Mount Everest. You will be forever transformed by this special event.
The incredible agenda includes the following highlights and more:
Darjeeling: Standing high in the Himalayas at an altitude of 2134m, ‘Dorje Ling’, or Place of the Thunderbolt, offers breath taking views of snow-capped mountain peaks. Surrounded by world famous tea gardens and snow capped mountains, Darjeeling remains one of the most exotic destinations.
Tiger Hill: Near Darjeeling at the top of the hill, you will view the beautiful sunrise and distinctive peaks of the Himalayan Range including Kanchandzonga and Mount Everest. The horizon changes colors just before sunrise and then, the entire Himalayan range turns golden. It is truly a majestic sight.
Dhirdham Temple: Nepal. The pagoda-style architecture of this temple is inspired from the Pashupatinath Temple in Nepal. The intricately carved and colourful roof of this temple is attractive, and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The vibrations of the temple exude palpable spiritual energy. There is also stunning scenery of hills and valleys that can be seen from the temple.
Tibetan Arts Centre: This institute is run by Tibetan Refugees to preserve their handicrafts. Witness the weaving of Tibetan carpets, leather work, paintings, wood work, and more. Honor, support, and help preserve the spiritual culture of Tibet.
Ghoom Pahar Forest: A captivating destination that beckons meditators, nature enthusiasts, and
adventure seekers. Nestled in one of the most breathtaking landscapes of India, this forest is a
sanctuary of tranquility and biodiversity where you will enjoy forest bathing and meditation surrounded by lush nature, bird songs, and butterflies.
Khando- Sangphu: Secret Cave of the Dakinis: Guru Padmasambhava is believed to have meditated in this cave during his stay in Sikkim in the 8th century A.D. It is believed that one who has visited the cave once need not undertake a pilgrimage again in their life. The Secret Cave of the Dakinis is one of the four holiest caves in Sikkim. In the remote corner, you can find space to sit in meditation pose. A deep imprint seen on the roof above is believed to be an impression of the Guru’s crown from his meditation in the cave.
Khechopalri Lake: Khecheopalri Lake is considered to be one of the sacred lakes of Sikkim
both by the Buddhist and the Hindus. The lake remains hidden in the rich forest cover. It is
believed that birds do not permit even a single leaf to float on the lake surface.
Dubdi Monastery: One of the oldest monasteries in Sikkim, Dubdi is located at the top of a hill. Also known as the Hermit’s Cell after its reclusive founder Lhatsun Namkha Jigme, it was built by the followers of the Nyingmapa sect of Tibetan Buddhism. The trail to Dubdi winds through lush forests high above the village, offering scenic overlooks and impressive mountain views. Dubdi means, “the retreat,” a perfect place for deep immersion in holy vibrations and meditation.
Chardham: Siddheshwar Dham: This unique pilgrimage site has a main temple of 108 feet height and an 87-foot high statue of Lord Shiva in meditation pose atop the Solophok Hill. At Solophok, Chardham, Lord Shiva incarnated as Kirateshwar in Indrakeel (present-day Sikkim). This incarnation is locally worshipped by the people of Sikkim as Lord Kirateshwar.
Aritar: Aritar is a small town full of enchanting natural beauty. It is an ideal destination for our immersion retreat because of its lush forest, shimmering waterfall, glacial lakes, snow-covered mountain peaks, and more. Aritar is truly a less trodden destination where we will get immersed in days of practice: meditation, pranayam, puja, homa, chanting, and more. We will visit Lampokhari Lake, located in a beautiful setting surrounded by thick alpine forest, and Kali Khola Falls, a breathtaking waterfall where the cascading crystalline water rushes down 100 meters from the lush green hills and descends over the mountains.
